The Beethoven Plus cycle continued last Sunday with a sold out concert as part of Music on the Quantocks. The venue itself was the charming village hall of Broomfield (seen above), but Music on the Quantocks presents concerts in villages all over West Somerset.
This particular concert gave Krysia and Daniel the chance to present Jonathan Dove, Huw Watkins and Judith Bingham‘s Beethoven companion pieces. Each of these pieces, Dove’s ‘Ludwig Games’, Bingham’s ‘The Neglected Child’, and Watkins’ ‘Spring’, were premiered at Kings Place earlier in May as part of the first instalment of the highly anticipated Beethoven cycle with a difference.
Over the summer the duo are preparing for the premiere of the five remaining companion works which will take place at Kings Place in mid-October. The composer’s works still to be performed include Jeremy Thurlow, Kurt Schwertsik, Philip Venables, David Matthews and Elspeth Brooke.
After the premiere of these five pieces, Krysia and Daniel are taking various combinations of the ten Beethoven violin sonatas and their companion pieces to venues all over the UK, including Sheffield, St Andrews, Cambridge and Aberdeen. They will also be returning to Somerset to give another concert for Music on the Quantocks at the beginning of November – more details to follow!
