Paul Driver, Sunday Times: “the fine performances by Krysia Osostowicz and the pianist Daniel Tong”

Kurt Schwertsik

Sunday Times, Paul Driver

“Across London, I enjoyed two of numerous Beethoven evenings being presented this autumn at Kings Place: notably the fine performances by Krysia Osostowicz and the pianist Daniel Tong of four of the violin sonatas, each matched with a commissioned short piece. Elspeth Brooke’s fluent Swoop prefaced the E flat sonata, Op 12, No 3, on a programme exploring Beethoven’s use of that key; and the next night, Jeremy Thurlow’s Mehlschöberl (a self-assumed Beethoven moniker) segued beautifully into the G major Eighth Sonata. Kurt Schwertsik’s sonatina-like Unterwegs nach Heiligenstadt was an exquisitely well-judged retrieval of tonality in response to the Sixth Sonata.”
